Distributed Monitoring System For Aerospace

Distributed Monitoring System

Condition Engineering’s fiber optic sensing system can continuously monitor the structural integrity and temperature of high-temperature materials.  Using MEMS technology, the fiber optic sensors will be coupled to local data processing and communication modules.  The sensing system will serve to self-diagnose the location of dangerous conditions within the structure and alert the appropriate personnel.

Local Monitoring

(e.g. one 6”x6”x2” thermal panel of a heatshield comprised of 100 thermal panels): Panel contains fiber optic sensors and a MEMS data processing and communication module.

The MEMS data processing and communication module is located along the underside of the high-temperature material; protected from the extreme environment.

Widespread Monitoring (e.g. an entire heatshield)

Every panel would contain fiber optic sensors and a MEMS data processing and communication module.  The MEMS processing and communication modules are networked together to form an intelligent distributed monitoring system to assess the health status of the entire heatshield.
